Bet you weren’t expecting a CB750 chopper, huh? Bikes like this are no minor feat, and doing it with a 4-cylinder classic machine and transforming it into a unique work of art adds another level of challenge and intricacy. Meet “Robbo Choppe,” a 1982 Honda CB750 that defies convention and stands out with the passion, dedication, and craftsmanship of its builder.

A Honda Revival

“Robbo Choppe” started its journey with the heart of a Honda CB750F, a relic of the past that had sat dormant for nearly a decade. But true to the legendary Honda reliability, a fresh battery and some fuel were all it took to awaken this slumbering beast. The story of this build is not just about creating a custom motorcycle; it’s about the enduring spirit of these machines.

A Frame with History

The foundation of “Robbo Choppe” is an original SB&F frame with an Amen Savior weld-on plunger rear end. This frame has seen its share of adventures, previously serving as a club member’s bike in Melbourne before embarking on a journey to South Australia. Now, it’s the canvas upon which a new chapter in its story is being written.

Breaking the Mold

The inspiration behind “Robbo Choppe” was a desire to break away from the conventional custom bike scene. While Panheads and Shovelheads dominate the landscape, the builder envisioned something fresh and exciting. In a country where SOHC Honda choppers hold a special place in the culture, the idea of a DOHC chop in the classic style was born as a nod to the rich history of chopper culture in Australia.

Masters of Their Craft

The creation of “Robbo Choppe” involved a collaborative effort among talented individuals who shared a passion for motorcycles. James Sinclair of Spread Cheese Fab in South Sydney handled the fabrication and engineering work. His meticulous attention to detail and unique style brought the builder’s vision to life.

For electrical work, Ben Scharkie of Mountains Motorcycle Wiring in the Blue Mountains lent his expertise. His flawless wiring skills ensured that “Robbo Choppe” not only looked great but performed flawlessly.

The motor work was entrusted to Hugh Robinson at RPE in Bathurst, known for his expertise in CB motor machining. With extensive knowledge and a passion for all things SOHC and DOHC Honda, Hugh transformed the bike into a true powerhouse.

The Beauty in the Details

Custom motorcycle building is all about the details. Every aspect of the bike, from its functionality to its style and fit, was carefully considered. Standout features like the custom breadbox air cleaner and hand-made polished alloy rear fender showcase the level of craftsmanship that went into this build.

A Labor of Love

As with any custom build, “Robbo Choppe” required a significant investment of time and money. The builder acknowledges the incredible community of like-minded individuals in the Australian chopper world who make such creations possible. It’s a reminder that good things take time and that quality craftsmanship is worth every penny.

A Rebirth with Added Muscle

The transformation of “Robbo Choppe” is not limited to its aesthetics. It underwent a ground-up rebuild, boasting a 830cc bore and numerous performance upgrades, including a brand-new Dyna ignition module and coils, performance Bosch leads, and rebuilt Keihin carbs. With a potential 100hp on tap, this bike has shed 50kg, making it a true force to be reckoned with.

“Robbo Choppe” certainly stands for individuality and a celebration of the chopper culture’s enduring spirit. From its revival as a dormant relic to its rebirth as a roaring beast, this custom Honda CB750 is a testament to the passion and creativity that drive the world of custom motorcycles. It’s a reminder that, in the world of two wheels, you don’t need to stick to the rules.
