A new breed is emerging. It’s electric, customisable, and ready to break the mould. Enter the 2023 Switch eScrambler, a groundbreaking mid-segment electric motorcycle that’s as unique as it is innovative. Let’s dive into the world of the eScrambler and discover what sets it apart from the rest.

The Vision Behind eScrambler

At the heart of this electrifying creation is Matthew Waddick, the visionary bike builder who dared to fuse classic custom motorbike styling with cutting-edge electric motorcycle technology. His journey began with an ambitious idea: to convert classic bikes into electric marvels. However, as the project evolved, it became clear that a ground-up approach was needed to seamlessly integrate electric components, rather than trying to shoehorn them into a traditional petrol motorcycle frame.

Crafting the Electric Masterpiece

The eScrambler comes to life with a custom-built aluminum frame, purposefully designed to house the electric components. It’s not just a motorcycle; it’s a work of art that combines form and function in perfect harmony.

To bring this electrifying vision to fruition, Matthew enlisted the expertise of Michel Riis, a Yamaha Japan designer and Danish flat track champion. Michel was tasked with designing a mid-size motorcycle that shared proportions with the eTRACKER concept by Shanghai Customs but boasted a more potent motor, a belt drive, and a refined design. Creating an electric bike that delivers both speed and range at an acceptable price point while looking undeniably sleek is a challenge few have dared to tackle. The eScrambler might be among the first bikes to master this delicate balance.

Power and Performance

Underneath the eScrambler’s elegant exterior lies a powerhouse of electric innovation. Its power pack is equipped with proprietary internals, offering a range of 11kWh to an impressive 13kWh, putting it on par with the formidable Zero SR. The ‘mid drive’ motor, on the other hand, churns out a staggering 50kW of power.

What sets the eScrambler apart further is its unique double cradle-style tube frame. Unlike the typical drop-in/perimeter frame used in most electric bikes, this design adds a touch of retro soulfulness and exceptional strength. Thanks to the ingenious work of Michel and the engineers who create Zero frames, this unconventional frame choice provides not only structural integrity but also a distinctive character.

The eScrambler boasts an 18-inch aluminum KTM rim setup both front and back, paired with KTM forks and a central mono shock, ensuring impeccable handling and a smooth ride.

Design Excellence

Crafting the eScrambler’s design was no small feat; it required striking a delicate balance between complexity and simplicity. The ‘tank,’ often a point of discussion on electric bikes, had to be reimagined. Michel Riis poured his creativity into designing a ‘tank’ that seamlessly melds heritage with modernity. It underwent numerous iterations and trials to achieve the perfect blend of form and function, resulting in a design that pays homage to tradition while embracing the electric future.

The 2023 Switch eScrambler is a taste of the boundless possibilities of electric innovation. With its fusion of classic styling, modern technology, and unparalleled design, it’s set to revolutionize the world of two-wheelers. So, keep your eyes on the road ahead because the eScrambler is here to electrify your riding experience like never before.
