We took a sneak peak at the busy work going on at Rising Sun Workshop recently, in preparation for their reopening at their new location in early 2016. It will no doubt be a huge asset for the bike community, and is a much-needed space for those living in the city without the luxury of a garage.
The large space, tucked down a lane in Newtown was a whirlwind of cutting, sanding, hammering and painting, as workers and volunteers got busy in finishing off as much work as possible. Once complete, this space will be a haven for bike builders and enthusiasts, as well as folk that are just keen for a good feed and a beer or two.
Upon completion, the workshop space will have four bike bays, each with their own hydraulic bike lift and all the tools needed to chop, modify or repair a motorcycle. There will also be a communal area, where smaller jobs and work on the bikes can be done. This ethos behind Rising Sun Workshop is to bring lovers of bikes from all experience levels and styles together and build on the community, allowing creativity and ideas to be exchanged and grown upon.
Rising Sun founders Adrian and Heleana have got all bases covered in this space, with a bike and parts storage area nearby where people can keep their mountain of parts, or bikes, tucked away safe. There will also be a Café and kitchen, pumping out a steady supply of good food and drink for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the beer and wine will be from local sources, adding more to the communal vibe that Rising Sun Workshop is built upon. The excitement and commitment for this workshop has been evident from the get-go, and folks from throughout the bike community have been eager to volunteer their time in helping get this much needed space finished.
There is a still more work to do, but Rising Sun Workshop should be open and operating by early 2016 – with it’s opening announcement day being kept secret until all is complete. You can get your membership now at www.risingsunworkshop.com
